Healthy yet yummy party menu ideas

Festive fervour is all things fun. If you do not want to step out, call some of your close friends to home and clink the New Year in a perfect fashion. As you begin doing the décor and planning some interesting things to do along the night, we tell you some fabulous ways to entertain your guests with a feast that is delicious yet healthy.

1. Drink dose
You can avoid the calories that a variety of cocktails and other such drinks have by serving diet soda, green tea, light beer, ginger ale, fruit punch or cranberry juice. Limiting calories right at the start of a party sets the tone right, so start by serving healthy drinks.

2. Fruity flavours
Serve fruit platters or salads. Apple slices with lemon sprayed on it prevent browning. Orange slices, melon cubes, chocolate-dipped strawberries or pineapples are some exciting options as well. Preparing some vegetable trays that include celery, carrots, broccoli is an option too.

3. Dips delight
Do not go overboard on mayonnaise or cheese. Rather, pick some salsa or sour cream. Even if you wish to serve cheese, opt for low-fat options. You could also make mint chutney at home, which is both tasty and healthy. Get low-fat yoghurt, hummus with pita bread as well.

4. Wholesome ways
Replace flour or bread with whole-wheat. Avoid using white bread completely. The pastas and macaroni’s also come in whole-wheat that contains better nutritional value. Then, whole-wheat blend dinner rolls are great as well. Always check nutritional label for all ready-made snacks and starters that you buy.

5. Non-Veg delight
It is always wise to choose meat options that are low in fat and high in protein. Cooking fish, shrimps, prawns, turkey make for a healthy party menu. Grilling fish rather than frying is a better idea.

6. Dessert dreams
No party is complete without desserts. But, make sure you make it light. Serve bite-sized portions just enough to taste and enjoy. People who are not too conscious about their weight can always ask for more, but the host at least should never ask the guests to binge endlessly. Mini cup cakes, cheesecakes, light vanilla ice crème are a good idea.

7. Things to remember
Serve light condiments like spicy mustard, low-fat mayo or fruit chutney on the buffet. Look out for small plates on the buffet that would not allow the guest to stack too much food on their plate. Serving green tea can ensure a guilt-free winter bash. Do a dessert and drinks party only if it is a late-night one, where your friends can concentrate more on connecting with each other than counting calories.
