Sonia wishes speedy recovery for Delhi gang-rape survivor

New Delhi, Dec 28 (ANI): Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Friday wished a speedy recovery for the young-girl who is fighting for her life in a Singapore hospital after being gang-raped by six men on a moving bus in Delhi.
Speaking on the occasion of 127th foundation day of Indian Nation Congress (INC), Sonia Gandhi refuses to celebrate the day and wished for the speedy recovery of Delhi gang-rape survivor.
"Today is foundation day of the INC and this day being close to New Year, we wish each other, we are not celebrating as our thoughts are with the young woman who is fighting for her life after the barbarous attack. Our only wish today is that she recovers and comes back to us and no time is lost to bring perpetrator of such crime to justice," she said.
Echoing similar sentiment, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said: "We share anguish and anger over heinous crime. Our prayers are with the brave young girl."
"Best possible medical care is being provided to her. You have my assurance that our government is committed to bringing the guilty to justice as soon as possible," he added.
The 23-year-old woman who was gang raped on December 16 and admitted to Singapore's Mount Elizabeth Hospital on Thursday morning, remains in an extremely critical condition, say doctors treating her.
A statement issued by the Mount Elizabeth Hospital said: "The condition of the patient remains extremely critical. Before she was admitted to our hospital she had undergone three abdominal surgeries and had experienced a cardiac arrest in India. A multi-disciplinary team of doctors is taking care of her and taking all possible steps to stabilise her condition."
The rape victim was shifted to Mount Elizabeth Hospital, which has a state-of-the-art facility for multi-organ transplant, after doctors attending on her decided that she should be taken there for treatment that could last for several weeks. (ANI)
