When you make a poor choice of clothing this holiday season — say, by wearing one of those light-up reindeer sweaters — it'll cost you nothing more than a little self-esteem.
Robert Griffin III? He's $10,000 lighter in the wallet because of his choice.
At last week's postgame news conference, RG3 wore an Adidas T-shirt and jacket. (He hadn't played in the game because of a sprained knee.) Stylish, yes, but also improper, as the NFL has an agreement with Nike. (You can see the swoosh on his sweats there at right.)
The NFL has confirmed that Griffin was fined for "unauthorized apparel."
Earlier this year, Griffin took some heat from the NFL for altering his Nike warmup jersey by scrawling an "H" over the swoosh and writing "HEART," as if to say his heart was with Adidas, or something like that. He wasn't fined then, but this time around, the second offense was enough to warrant a fine.
Call us crazy, but we get the impression that this is brand awareness Adidas isn't entirely unhappy with. Even so, expect Mr. Griffin to pay a little closer attention to his postgame attire in the future.
